It provides standardized operating concepts for the storage and consistency of controllers, human machine interfaces (HMIs) and readers, and shared data (for example, during configuration, communication, and diagnostics). It also provides a powerful library for all automation objects. The simple technical design of the TIA Portal allows easy access to the entire area of digital automation, from digital planning to integrated engineering and transparent operation. In addition to lifecycle management (product lifecycle management, PLM) and industrial process management (manufacturing execution system, MES) as part of the digital enterprise software suite, the TIA portal completes also a series of software provided by Siemens. Applicable to companies moving towards Industry 4.0.
With the help of TIA Portal V15.1 (fully integrated automation portal), Siemens improves its engineering tools, including new functions focused on testing at all stages, from planning and engineering to commissioning. TIA Portal V15.1 provides new simulation and virtual commissioning options for better digital design of integrated workflows, and extends its reach with Simatic S7-1500R / H controllers and Sinamics S210 drivers, to the multi-user engineering, to software Unit functions and OPC UA.
Using Simatic S7-PLCSIM Advanced, a digital twin of the Simatic S7-1500 controller has been created in the TIA Portal for simulation and virtual commissioning. Then the new Simatic Machine Simulator V1.0 combines this digital twin model with the NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (NX MCD) simulation software for electromechanical concepts, enabling virtual verification of complete machines: electromechanical models and control systems can be simulated And check the synchronization of machine applications. The combination of controller virtualization and mechatronics has resulted in lifelike digital twins. Under real conditions, comparing the paired digital system with the real system can respond quickly to changes and automatically consider changes at upstream and downstream development stages. Commissioning of the S7-1500 controller in TIA Portal V15.1 is also faster and more efficient than before. The multi-user project of the TIA Portal has been supplemented with the debug mode, and the software unit can now be used to build user programs. The Simatic S7-1500 series has been extended with a new redundant Simatic S7-1500R / H CPU. This project corresponds to the project for a standard CPU. TIA Portal and the redundant CPUs manage the synchronization of programs and data, all without the user having to make additional efforts.
The extended application options of TIA Portal V15.1 include controller-controller communication with the OPC UA function of S7-1500 controllers. Now, in addition to the OPC UA server function, it can also be used as an OPC UA client. A standardized interface (called a “match specification”) which can be easily imported via the TIA Portal allows the machine to be directly integrated into the installation.
