The range of compact and modular Twido programmable controllers from Schneider Electric offers an “all-in-one” solution for automation in a small footprint.

Compact bases
Eight compact controllers (including 4 expandable by adding expansion modules) are available, differing in their processing capacity and number of 24 V DC inputs, relay and transistor outputs (10, 16, 24 and 40 /exits).
These compact bases use:
> An alternating current power supply, between a 100 and 240 V (ensuring the 24 V DC power supply for the sensors).
> Or a DC power supply, between 19.2 and 30 V DC.

Modular bases
The range of modular programmable controllers offers five modular bases, different in their processing capacity and their number and type of inputs / outputs (20 or 40 inputs / outputs with connection by screw terminal block or HE 10 type connector, with relay outputs or sink / source transistor).
They can receive in extension all the input / output modules (27 discrete and analog modules). All modular bases use a 24 V DC power supply.
These modular bases are expandable by adding I / O expansion modules.
They offer :

All or Nothing I / O Expansion Modules
The range of discrete input / output expansion modules is made up of 15 mixed input, output and input / output modules.
These input / output modules complement the inputs / outputs integrated in the Twido and Modicon OTB expandable bases.
Discrete input / output modules are defined as follows:
> 4 discrete input modules 24 V DC with modular 8, 16 or 32 channels, equipped, depending on the models with removable screw terminal blocks or HE 10 type connector.
> 1 digital input module at 120 V AC, 8 channels, equipped with a removable screw terminal block.

All discrete input / output modules are designed with photocoupler isolation between the internal electronics and the input / output channels.
Description
Discrete input / output expansion modules include :
(1) An extension connector for the connection with the previous module. A connector on the right side panel allows the continuity of the link with the next input / output module.
(2) One or two module channel display and diagnostic block (s).
(3) One or two connection elements that can be, depending on the model, of the type :
> Removable screw terminal block (1 or 2) for modules whose reference ends in T.

An OTB 9ZZ 61JP power common distribution module (2 isolated groups of 10 terminals) facilitates the wiring of the sensor or preactuator power supply commons on 2 removable screw terminal blocks.

Analog I / O expansion modules
Analog input / output expansion modules enable the acquisition of the various analog values encountered in industrial applications.
Analog output modules are used to drive preactuators in physical units, such as variable speed drives, valves, and applications requiring process control.
The output current or voltage is proportional to the digital value defined by the user program.
When the controller is stopped, the outputs can be configured with fallback (set to the low value of the scale or hold at the value).
This function, with hold at the value, is used in debugging the application or on a fault so as not to disturb the controlled process.
The 12 analog input / output modules are defined as follows :
> A module with 2 inputs 0… 10 V, 4… 20 mA.
> A module with 2 thermocouple inputs type J, K and T.
> A module with 4 inputs 0… 10 V, 0… 20 mA, Pt100 / 1000 (range – 200… 600 ° C) and Ni100 / 1000 (range – 50… 150 ° C).

The analog module extensions offer a resolution of 10 bits, 11 bits + sign and 12 bits, with connection by removable screw terminal block.
An external 24 V DC power supply is required for each analog module.

In a small footprint of 157 x 90 x 70 mm, the TWD LCAE 40DRF (100 … 240 V AC power supply) and TWD LCDE 40DRF (24 V DC power supply) bases include the following discrete I / O :

> 14 relay outputs.
> 2 transistor outputs 24 V DC.

TwidoPort interface module
The TwidoPort 499 TWD 01100 module is an easy-to-use Ethernet interface dedicated to the version 3.0 Twido programmable controller, compact or modular.
It allows the Twido controller to integrate into an Ethernet network as a passive device (slave). The TwidoPort module is ready to use.
Connected to the integrated RS 485 serial port of any compact or modular base, the interfaceTwidoPort module is a gateway between the Ethernet TCP / IP network and the Modbus serial link of the Twido controller.
The connection cable between the base and the TwidoPort module is supplied with the module.
The main characteristics of the TwidoPort module are as follows:
> Connected to the RS 485 port of the Twido controller, no external auxiliary power supply is required.
> Ethernet configuration:
– Receives the Ethernet configuration from the Twido application configuration (normal mode).
– Supports manual configuration using Telnet.

Description
The TwidoPort 499 TWD 01100 interface module includes :
(1) Five LEDs indicating the interface and link status of the TwidoPort module.
(2) An RJ45 connector for connecting the power supply and the link to the integrated RS 485 port of the Twido controller. This connection is provided by the TWD XCA RJP03P cable supplied with the TwidoPort interface module.
(3) An RJ45 type connector (access from the bottom of the module) for connection to the Ethernet TCP / IP network.
(4) An earth screw (access from the bottom of the module).
The TwidoPort interface module is standard mounted on a symmetrical DIN rail. The TWD XMT5 mounting kit can be mounted on a plate or on a panel.

Shielded copper patch cords

The maximum length of the cords thus produced is 80 m. Their quick assembly is done without any specific tool.

CANopen bus master module
The TWD NCO1M master module for CANopen bus enables the Twido programmable controller of version ≥ 3.0, compact base TWD LC.A24 / 40DRF and the modular bases TWD LMDA.0D .., to perform the CANopen master function.
The bus consists of a master station, the Twido controller, and slave stations.
The master is in charge of configuration, exchanges and diagnostics with the slaves.
The CANopen bus is a communication type bus and allows the management of various slaves such as :
> All or Nothing slaves.
> Analog slaves.
> Variable speed drives.
> Motor starters.
> ….
The Twido CANopen master controls up to 16 slaves, each with a process data object PDO (Process Data Object) on input and a process data object PDO on output.
If a slave has more than one PDO process data object, the maximum number of slaves is reduced accordingly.

Configuration
The Twido controller’s CANopen bus is configured using the TwidoSuite software.
The different services offered are :
> Selection of the slave type from a list that can be modified by simply importing an EDS (Electronic Data Sheet) type description file.
> Positioning of the slave on the bus: definition of the slave number.
> The choice of variables from the list of variables managed by the slave.
> The link of variables on the exchange data.
> The symbolization of exchange data.
For some slaves such as ATV 31/61/71 variable speed drives and Lexium 05 servo drive, one or more profiles are supplied allowing the slave to be configured in a mode predefined by Schneider Electric.
The use of profiles provides the user with a described mode of operation, without having to configure it.

The CANopen TWD NCO1M bus master module includes :
(1) A plug-in 24 V DC power connector, 3 contacts with earth.

Modbus protocols, character mode, I / O offset and programming
To communicate via serial links, the compact and modular bases (expandable) of Twido programmable controllers offer a basic RS 485 serial link mainly dedicated to the programming port.
These Twido controller bases, except for the 10 I / O compact base (not expandable), additionally offer an optional RS 485 or RS 232 type link.
These non-isolated serial ports allow compact and modular Twido controllers to communicate according to 4 protocols :
> Programming, for connection with a PC (equipped with TwidoSuite programming software or TwidoAdjust adjustment software) or with pocket PC. This link can be of the wired, modem or wireless type using Bluetooth technology.
> Modbus, to meet master / slave architectures with Schneider Electric equipment or third-party equipment.
> ASCII in character mode for connection with serial equipment (printer, modem, etc.)
> “Remote link” I / O offset, for I / O extension or “reflex” controller materialized by Twido bases.
Description
The compact 16/24/40 I / O bases have on the front panel :
(1) An RS 485 serial link port, mini-DIN type connector, for connection to the programming terminal.
(2)
A slot for the 2nd serial link port (RS 485 / RS 232) by inserting one of the three TWD NAC 485./232D adapters.
The 20/40 I / O modular bases have on the front face :
(1) An RS 485 serial link port, mini-DIN type connector, for connection to the programming terminal.
(2) A 2nd serial link port (RS 485 / RS 232) via TWD NAC 485./232 adapters. Depending on requirements, this adapter (accessible via the removable cover (3)) is either:

The module with interface adapter or the digital display module is mounted on the left of the Twido modular bases (only one module possible).

Modbus serial link
The Modbus serial link makes it possible to respond to master / slave architectures (it is nevertheless necessary to check that the Modbus services useful for the application are implemented on the devices concerned).
The bus is made up of a master station and slave stations. Only the master station can initiate the exchange (direct communication between slave stations is not possible).
Two exchange mechanisms are possible :
> Question / answer, requests from the master are addressed to a given slave.
The response is expected in return from the interrogated slave.
> Broadcasting, the master broadcasts a message to all the slave stations on the bus.
They carry out the order without issuing a response.

Programming protocol

Each base of the Twido controller, of compact or modular type, can be extended by any other Twido bases used either as an I / O extension or as a local “reflex” controller, with a maximum of 7 bases :

As an input / output extension, these bases with 10, 16, 20, 24 or 40 “Discrete” I / O cannot receive any expansion module (“Discrete”, analog or communication I / O ).
The “master” base controller acquires the inputs and updates the outputs of Twido bases in extension of remote I / O.
> As a local “reflex” controller, these bases each have their own application program. They can receive all the expansion modules (discrete I / O, analog or communication). Eight internal words (4 input words% INW0.0…% INW0.3 and 4 output words% QNW0.0…% QNW0.3 are reserved in each “reflex” base for the automatic exchange of information with the “master” database.

TwidoSuite programming software
TwidoSuite presents an intuitive and very visual navigation.
The presentation is optimized so as to select the desired development stage of the project, with the appropriate tools.

The work area is uncluttered in order to do what is necessary for the task at hand without unnecessary information.

Basic functions are permanently accessible for quick and easy navigation and access to information.
Project management
The “Project management” allows you to:
> Create a new project with the ability to enter information using a form and attach a photo.
> Open a project from the PC (hard disk, CD-Rom, USB key, etc.).
> Replay a project from a Twido controller.
Quick access allows you to find the last used projects.
Description of the architecture
This function allows you to:
> Define the Twido hardware used in the project (controller, I / O extension, options, etc.),
> Describe the environment of the controller such as:
– The connected HMI dialogue terminal.
– Equipment connected to the CANopen network.

This material context of the project is essential to explain as clearly as possible what the automation managed by the Twido controller consists of.

A graphic editor allows you to easily assemble the different elements by simple “drag & drop”.
The “Nomenclature” tool lists all the products used and makes it possible to retrieve this information in Excel to prepare a material order faster, for example.

Programmation
An essential step, the programming has been particularly studied to allow maximum efficiency. Thus, the program can now be organized into “Sections”, which simplifies reading and navigation in the program.
These sections can be programmed in instruction list language (LIST) or ladder language (LADDER).
Focus
The connection task is very guided, allowing you to follow step by step the actions performed by TwidoSuite (choice of connection, test of the connected controller, selection of the transfer performed).
The program is then animated, allowing possible modifications without stopping the controller (RUN).
Animation tables allow you to comfortably view memory objects.
A mini floating dashboard allows you to manage actions on the controller.
TwidoSuite also integrates:

TwidoAdjust software
TwidoAdjust software is a software tool dedicated to managing and animating Twido applications through the use of a Pocket PC.
The TwidoAdjust and Pocket PC software package can be connected to a Twido programmable controller :
> Either using the TSX PCX 1031 and TSX PCX 1130 cables (ensuring the crossing of the Rx and Tx wires).
> Or by means of Bluetooth wireless technology. For optimal operation, use a Pocket PC with integrated Bluetooth technology.
TwidoAdjust software requires a Pocket PC running the PWindows Mobile 5.0 operating system. It must be used with the pen, the buttons of the Pocket PC are not supported.
Allowing project management, TwidoAdjust software allows :
> To transfer applications.
> To animate and save tables of objects.
> To save the values of categories of objects.
From the first screen, the TwidoAdjust software offers the possibility of viewing essential data of the controller such as its reference, its status, the name of the application, the version of its firmware.
Modicon Telefast ABE 7 pre-wiring system
The relaying and connection functions, with or without polarities distribution, considerably reduce wiring times and eliminate the risk of errors.
The Modicon Telefast ABE 7 pre-wiring system allows remote connection of input and output modules (discrete 24 V DC) to operating parts, quickly, reliably and economically, by partially eliminating the single-wire connection and intermediate terminal blocks.
The Telefast ABE 7 system can only be connected to Twido modules equipped with HE 10 type connectors. It is made up of cables and interface sockets.
The Telefast ABE 7 offer meets all the types of connection encountered in automation equipment :
> Inputs / outputs located in the PLC cabinet.
> Inputs / outputs located directly on the machine or in auxiliary boxes.
All input / output sockets are made up of output terminals on 2 floors :
> 1st row: signal connection.
> 2nd row: connection of its common, 24 V DC for the inputs, 0 V for the outputs.
A 3rd row of optional ABE 7BV .. terminals can be added for connecting another common.
